August village outing, Erina and Avoca

A Wild Winter’s Day

The weather on Tuesday 3rd August was miserable as we set out on our Village bus outing to visit some of the retail outlets in Karalta Rd at Erina. Inside the Base Warehouse, as we browsed and bought, it didn’t matter that it was such a wet, windy & very cold day outside.

By the time we travelled to the southern end of Avoca Beach for morning tea, the rain had stopped and we sheltered from the wind in the large picnic shed which we had to ourselves. The seas were wild as we watched the waves crashing over and covering the historic ring-of-rocks beach pool near which fearless board riders were enjoying the dangerous conditions.

Spring is in the Air

Spring is the best time to visit the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby and that’s where we’ll be going on our Village bus outing in September. As well as being home to one of the most extensive collections of reptiles and marsupials in Australia, colourful flora grows there in the wildlife sanctuary, in harsh conditions on sandstone. Native plants abound, providing food and shelter for many birds, especially honeyeaters.
