About the Central Coast Family History Society

The Central Coast Family History Group Inc was formed in 1981, when a small group began to meet over coffee to exchange ideas regarding research into their family histories.

As interest grew, and membership increased, it became necessary for a more formal approach, thus the first election of officers was held in April, 1983.

In late 1996 a home of our own was realised. Sponsored by Gosford City Council, the pictured cottage began to take on a whole new role for the Society. The Centre was relocated to East Gosford in December 1999 and made ready for us by December 2000. We proudly opened our doors on January 15th 2001 at 9.30am.

The number of active members now exceeds 350, with attendance at monthly meetings averaging sixty or more.

The Centre contains the Birth, Death and Marriage indexes for NSW, some for Tasmania, everything available for Victoria, whatever is available for South Australia and some Western Australian Indexes. The Pioneer CD for Queensland. The entire Sands Directory available to us on microfiche has now been purchased. We have Rookwood and many other cemeteries on microfiche and in book form, our shelves are bursting with research aids and books of interest.

Our Library holdings are on a computer database on Computers 8 and 9. The inventory is so large that is is not longer viable to have a printed up to date copy available. Updates are compiled in April, August and December and posted as an insert with our journal.

Our overseas collection is growing rapidly with many members donating copies of journals from overseas societies.

Our collection of microfilm is tremendous and includes:
