June 2011 outing to Kincumber At Yattalunga we had time to stroll along the jetty leading to the tidal swimming pool while admiring the sandstone stonework which has recently been done to help prevent further erosion of the foreshores.
Fortunately we had taken heed of the weather forecast and were well rugged up for our morning tea on Kincumba Mountain. The sun was shining but it was chilly in the picnic area 200 metres above sea level. There was time for some of us to enjoy a chat while standing on Honeymans Rock, while others warmed up by heading of on a short walk along the many tracks.
Inside Kincumber's historic St Pauls Church we listened intently to the stories Marian French, a parishioner and historian, shared with us. Her tales about the early days of Kincumber when pioneering families chose to settle around Brisbane Water, reminded us of the many hardships faced by these early settlers. Marian French's booklet The Heart of the Kincumber Heritage Trail can be purchased at Kincumber Post Office. It helps us appreciate the historic significance of our local area and provides interesting reading about some of the pioneer (including Frost, Davis, Dunlop, Beattie & Settree) whose family names are familiar to us.
