FUNCTIONS OF THE LIBRARY SUB-COMMITTEE

The Library Sub-Committee consists of five members and duties are:

·        Keeping shelves tidy

·        Rotating books from storeroom and culling worn out copies

·        Placing “returned” books back on shelves

·        Maintaining a list of all books (no mean feat)

Buying new books with levy money and accounting for these purchases

·        Listing, stamping and cataloguing donated and purchased books

·        Repairing books

·      Ensuring computers are turned off each day, replacing paper, cartridges etc

·        Locating books for residents

The Library has an allocation of about $1750 per year from levies.  This is entirely a matter for residents to decide but ours decided that they would prefer a more modern library rather than a collection of old books.    A catalogue listing all books is kept in the library for residents’ information and they are invited to list in the front any books they would liked purchased.  As long as the book can be found at a reasonable price, this will be done.  The Library also receives quite a few donations of books.  The sub-committee meets once a month to discuss any problems or new initiatives.
