Farewell lunch for Margaret and Barry

On Friday March 4th 2011 our hard working Social Sub-Committee organised a farewell lunch for our much loved and appreciated managers Margaret and Barry at the Davistown RSL.

133 attended, and enjoyed a good 2 course meal.  President Colin presented them with a cheque for $3,510 made up of residents donations on the day and from the week or so before. In his speech he expressed the thoughts of all of us there, and most of our residents.

It was a good send-off with much happiness and laughter, but some sadness, and a few tears. There was a king size “thank you card” signed by most of our residents, also many individual cards, as well as some written references as many of us wanted them to have the best chance of future employment possible. It is not always easy when you get to a certain age.

Barry and Margaret will be extremely hard to replace. Live-in managers have been a great success in our village. Apart from being cost effective, they were there for us in time of need, and showed great compassion and understanding of us elderly residents. We hope sanity prevails and Living Choice gives us people like them who really understand the term “duty of care”.
