Melbourne Cup 2011
102 residents enjoyed the ideal weather in the Pavilion area of our
village, with our new table cloths giving us an excellent setting for
the day.
There were sweeps managed by Bob and Lyn Kennedy
with help from John S. so that the more than 90 residents who knew
nothing about horses or betting could have a financial interest in the
result with Dunaden winning and Modun came last but a popular ticket
was “Older than time” who came 17th
There were fashions and there were lots of lovely
outfits which added colour to the setting in the Pavilion. Our hat
parade for the ladies gave the judges an almost impossible task of
selecting winners as there were just so many wonderful variations. The
men’s parade was a small quality field (with one exception} but the
others were a picture of sartorial elegance.
Catering was by Northlakes Spit Roast & Catering
with our wonderful hospitality committee providing quality beverages.
The big screen and sound was organised excellently by Ian Kay and
everyone contributed by their presence. $150 was made for residents
funds plus some from the sweeps. All the Social Sub-Committee ladies,
Bill, and sundry helpers should be thanked and congratulated.
You have got to love this village.
