Probus BBQ at Camp Breakaway A very pleasant day was enjoyed recently by the Saratoga and District Probus Club when they held a BBQ at Camp Breakaway, San Remo. After a visit from a speaker from the Camp at one of our monthly meetings, it was suggested that this BBQ would be a good idea and also to help with a donation. So on a very rainy April day we arrived at the Camp complete with all goodies necessary for a BBQ, to be held indoors. After a hilarious lunch, spirits not dampened by the weather, we were given a talk by Dawn, the Manager, about the Camp and its operation. It is a non-profit, charitable organisation, committed to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities, at the same time allowing relief for their families and carers. The Camp is located on land owned by the local Power station and is leased for a peppercorn rent. It is a sizable property , with beautiful grounds and accommodations for patients and carers. The carers are totally relieved of their responsibilities whilst the charges are looked after by qualified nursing staff. The worn -out mothers are treated to beauty care and a trip to the hairdresser and are given a really happy time while there. Dawn told us about one little autistic boy who was hard to manage, whose Grandmother came to collect him after only one day because she said that no-one had been able to manage him before, he stayed for the three days! We were very happy to make a donation of $375.00 for such a worthy cause. Thank you Pauline Argue and Gloria Burt for the copy and photos
