Rathmines WW11 Heritage listed Seaplane Base Tour.

On March 23rd we did this interesting day tour, It started with morning tea in the former Officers Mess, now the Rathmines Memorial Bowling Club. We learnt the history of the area, viewed the honour roll and interesting photos and models of flying boats which served at Rathmines, and the stained glass Catalina window memorial wall. After a good lunch we  boarded the coach and continued on with our enthusiastic guide Bill who left no stone unturned. This was the largest flying boat base in the southern hemisphere during the second world war. We saw memorial point, Catalina Bay, Styles Point. This 50.8 hectare area is being well used by community groups.
