Spring at the Australian Reptile Park

There were baby koalas hanging on tightly, baby wombats snuggling together and baby ducklings trailing very close to their mother. All were enjoying the sun on a beautiful spring morning in September, when 16 residents and David (our bus driver) wandered around the indoor & outdoor exhibits and along the walking tracks.

“Did you see……?”  was frequently heard as we shared our sightings with each other and other visitors to the park.

For some of the ‘tourists’ from Alloura Waters, it was their first visit, while others had fond memories of previous viewings with family and friends.

As a young naturalist, Eric Worrell opened a wildlife park at Wyoming, just north of Gosford in the late 1950’s, calling it Eric Worrell’s Australian Reptile Park. He’d started his first tourist venture, the tiny Ocean Beach Aquarium in Umina, 10 years previously and there began the first commercial production of snake venom for the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories.

Eric’s life was dedicated to the protection of native animals & reptiles and to the development of anti-venoms.  Many people owe their survival to the work of the late Eric Worrell and the continuing efforts of staff at Somersby’s Australian Reptile Park, the Central Coast’s leading tourist attraction.

The Park is a great place to visit, even if you don’t want to see the reptiles!!

Visitors, young and old, have the opportunity in this wildlife sanctuary to enjoy the wonders of nature.

We thank you Robin A.
