The card game Solo is believed to have originated in the Low Countries of Europe, coming to Britain in the late 19th century. It is now played in Australia and New Zealand.

There are three main types---Solo Whist---Auction Solo---Three Handed Solo.

The main object of all of these  the games is to bid the number of tricks you hope to take and, if you succeed, to be paid in counters or money. Some rules are decided by the players before the game. Generally there are 4 to 5 players, 1 or 2 packs of 52 cards and dealing, bidding, and playing is clockwise. There is a turned up trump for each deal. Cards are dealt4, 3, 3, 3 to each player in turn.
