Village Bus Outing on Tuesday 19th October

A Summerland Point Love Story

Even on a grey day, our residents are able to appreciate the beauty of the Central Coast.  We admired the red of the spectacular flowering bottlebrushes, the lush green of lawns, reserves & paddocks and the masses of white flannel flowers as we travelled via Terrigal & Budgewoi to reach Summerland Point.

While we enjoyed our picnic morning tea in the reserve on the shores of Lake Macquarie, we spotted Oscar & Lucinda, very popular residents of the area.  The love story of this bonded pair of white geese is heart-warming.

Back in July this year, the RSPCA was told that the female was suffering from a broken wing and she was driven to the Erina Heights Veterinary Hospital where treatment was offered free of charge.  As the female goose was fretting without her mate, a member of the public took the gander to the RSPCA Central Coast Shelter where he was soon reunited with his lost love.

The Shelter staff named them Oscar & Lucinda and cared for the pair together while Lucinda’s wing healed.

It was an exciting day for all involved when, early in September, the inseparable geese were taken home to the launching ramp in the reserve.  As we saw on our Village outing, plucky Lucinda & Oscar are still enjoying life together in the caring community of Summerland Point.
